Bob Esponja

English language TV programs translate into Spanish can be very difficult. There are many idiomatic expressions and concepts that can not simply be translated word for word for them to be reasonable. I submit to you a simple example, but effective.















Sponge Bob Squarepants (or just Bob Esponja because he was known in Spain) has a neighbor named Squidward. This is a play on the name of Edward Squid +. To translate this name into Spanish, the concept of the squid is first translated (Calamar) and then adapted using the same, although modified, milk formula. So Edward became Calamar Squid + + Eduardo, and therefore is Calamardo neighbor Bob Esponja.
