Why would content providers such as the Financial Times be compelled to offer their content on iOS, when Apple requires them to (additionally) use the in-app purchases by which the providers lose the advantage of using their own register and keeping the entire revenue, without having to share it with Apple.

The Financial Times didnt have this new revenue stream before Apple offered it to them. Why wouldnt apple share profits? To me its more about keeping companies away from data collecting on their prey...i mean peons... i mean customers.

phil1995Apr 17, 06:50 PMI have one of the newer mac mini's (server) with the HDMI out port on it. I am using the machine as a home theatre pc.

Friday night I rented a HD movie from Itunes and attempted to play it on my 50 inch plasma. I received the message that my display is not HDCP compliant and that I could not play the vidoe.

I looked up the specs on my Samsung PN50A650 and found the following statement about HDCP that states the display is HDCP compatible. The only other issue that may come into play, was that I had my EyeTV HD recorded plugged in at the time, I disconnected the device, but the video still did not play.

Does anyone know why I can not display the HDCP media? Is there a test file I can use for troubleshooting since the rental has expired? (Apple refunded my money by the way)

What is HDMI?
� HDMI, or high-definition multimedia interface, is an interface that enables the
transmission of digital audio and video signals using a single cable.
� The difference between HDMI and DVI is that the HDMI device is smaller in size and
has the HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital Copy Protection) coding feature installed.
➢ Each DVD Player or Cable Box / Satellite receiver (Set-Top Box) has a different
back panel configuration.
➢ The TV may not output sound and pictures may be displayed with abnormal color
when DVD Player or Cable Box / Satellite receivers supporting HDMI versions
older than 1.3 are connected. When connecting an older HDMI cable and there
is no sound, connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN 2 jack and the audio cables
to the DVI IN (HDMI2) [R-AUDIO-L] jacks on the back of the TV. If this happens,
contact the company that provided the DVD Player or Cable Box / Satellite receiver
to confirm the HDMI version, then request an upgrade.
➢ HDMI cables that are not 1.3 may cause annoying flicker or no screen display.

I've been having trouble with this for a little while now. Done a lot of looking around but can't find anyone with a similar problem. I've updated everything on iTunes and also restarted the phone but I'm not able to turn off an alarm I have set at 6:35am every day. When I go to the alarm control settings, all alarms are turned off and none are even set for this time.
Does anyone have any ideas? This isn't a big deal, but it's terrible on weekends!

Isn't your point that the ends justify the means? If we torture people we might be able to obtain information and save lives? Well if saving lives is the goal we should be testing drugs and experimental procedures on criminals after all it will save lives.

Should we torture criminals we catch (in this country) until they inform on other criminals they know? After all it might save lives.

We can keep going in circles. I think you do get what I mean with the "medical testing" thing.

Again, you are taking one sentence I said and ignoring the rest. I also said that each case needs to be analyzed individually at the end. Hence the people who are part of the police/army/intelligence agencies/etc need to be intelligent and sensible people.

PeelJul 27, 01:44 AMI guess I'm not as much of a purist as some here. I make DVDs off EyeTV digital HD broadcast recordings with Toast 7 and they look and sound very close to the original HD broadcasts on my 24" Dell 1920 x 1200 display. I cannot see much nor hear any difference.

Call me old fashioned but I just don't see why I would want Blu-ray or HD-DVD until they are cost competitive with good old fashioned single layer 4.38 GB DVDs. :rolleyes:

Well maybe on the 24" screen, but go to play it on a 42" or larger plasma monitor, and the difference will become apparent. On the 24" screen you've got a pitch of about 92 ppi, the plasma screens run from 53 ppi for the 42" down to 37 ppi on a 60" screen (remember the resolution doesn't change, just the screen size). On these less dense screens, the full resolution of the HD image, along with the greater color depth that HD provides over NTSC is significant.

I was only making an affirmative assertion regarding the white iPhone and the female population. Affirmative statements about one sex do not insinuate, nor should one infer, equally negative assertions for the opposite sex. It's not a zero sum event. The phone can be wildly popular among all demographics. But it will be women's fashion mags (moreso than men's) that will portray it as a hot fashion accessory for the season. This is my opinion obviously.

Yvan256Oct 6, 08:28 AMThen please go visit www.csszengarden.com and see how user-applied changes break their designs to the point where elements are covered by others. Those designs usually apply to the W3 standards, and I bet they are far better at this things than either you or me.

Having valid (X)HTML/CSS code doesn't mean it's well-coded. Some designers still think that webpages are static images where they (should) have pixel-perfect control. I hate those websites, some even go to the length of putting actual text content inside a GIF file because the browser couldn't render their 5-pixels-high font correctly.

CSS Zen Garden shows how the web should be coded (XHTML structured content styled with CSS), but some of the designs (CSS files) are bad (yet use valid CSS code).

If you view CSS Zen Garden with CSS disabled, you'll still have access to the content. It won't be pretty, but it'll be there. Content is more important than style (style with no content is useless).

Little jobs sometimes hardly warrant all the time in initial consultation, doing quotes, invoices, possibly banking cheques and other admin. So don't necessarily turn down good work, but just make sure you're setting your prices, not him. Charge him for every minute of author's corrections too, and make sure that's written on the quote that he signs to accept the job.

Oh, and I forgot to say before, if you do decide to take on any more work from him, make sure you get paid for these jobs first! He could be a non-payer, and then you'll really know what a nightmare client is all about!

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I definitely won't lift a finger towards another job until he pays for this one. I made sure he paid up for the logo before I started the site concept. Overall the guy gives me bad vibes. My other clients are always happy with the end result and we interact civilly. If this guy talks down to me one more, I'll politely cut him loose. iMacZealotNov 20, 05:55 PMOkay, this one I doubt....why would you want to tie a phone into iChat? Instant messaging is on almost or available to every phone sold within the last 2 years or so. I don't see why that would bee something Apple would want to advertise when a lot of run-of-the-mill phones can do it.
